On 27 August 2014 the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam launched its new website in which the top tasks of the visitors and storytelling are key: facilitating and inspiring. How do these two relate to each other? What does it mean for the organisation to focus on storytelling in its (online) communication? How are the stories created?

In November 2014 we also presented a new presentation of the permanent collection in the museum and a new multimedia guide. In the new presentation, the complete story is being told: the artist, the context, his personal ambitions, his emotions, the myths and his influence until this very day. Visitors discover the ideas and ambitions behind Van Gogh’s art. The multimedia guide helps visitors to get to know Vincent van Gogh even better. They get to understand Van Gogh, by looking at his works, for instance, from a totally different angle.

How do the stories told in the museum and online relate to each other?

This talk is part of the “Go” programme: Go Human!
